snow stew

you stir and stir
the stew
as it cooks slowly
on the front
burner.
you lift the lid
and lean
your head down
to smell the onions
and beef tips,
carrots and
potatoes.
you smile at
the mushrooms floating.
love, like stew
is best cooked slowly,
served hot
on a winters day,
such as
this snowy one
is with you.
