the ark

it begins to
rain hard.
you look out your
window
and see
a line of animals
going up the street
two by two.
elephants and giraffes,
monkeys
and porcupines.
two skunks,
two alligators,
wild boars side by
side.
you turn away
from the window.
this is not a boat
you want to get on.
so you blow
up your life raft
and take your
chances that way.
