heads or tails

i'll flip you for it,
she says,
holding a half
dollar in her
hand. sure you
say. go ahead.
i call heads.
so she flips the
coin and slaps
it down onto
the back of her
hand. if you lose,
you know how
hard this is
going to be,
don't you? are you
sure you don't want
to change your mind
to tails?  heads
you say again
shaking yours.
i'm sure it's heads.
she shows the coin.
it's tails.
off we go to
the opera house.
