fish and meat

if i had to
kill a cow
to eat it
lay low behind
a tree
with a knife
i wouldn't.
if i had to
pluck a chicken
and wring
it's neck.
i couldn't.
if i had to
filet a fish
and take
him by hook
or net,
i wouldn't.
i'd rather
starve
then kill
the beast.
but i'm so glad
that safeway
cares and distributes
fish and meat.
