the bird feeder

all birds on wing
can gather there,
or so you'd like
to believe in
the democracy
of the bird feeder
that swings
at the top
of the window.
they come,
but many
are  not allowed
and must flee
from the force
and fury of those
with power,
with sharpened
beaks and wings
that beat the air.
