smooth and brown
by time
and age, dangles
short of
being useful
anymore.
the string
snapped clean,
is not long
enough to be
knotted
to the side
that's free.
no compromise
is left. and
perhaps it says
less about
the shoe, or
the lace and
more about things
that break
with no chance
of mending.
