how are we so different

take the landscape
of the moon, for
instance. how nothing
is permitted to grow
there. it's barren,
it's airless, floating
luminously through
space, little altered
with time. it is less
about imagination,
or from lack of
trying. it's just so.
it can't be what
it isn't. it can't
be mercury, or mars.
how are we so
different. so set
in our orbit, within
our small window of
mankind, unable to
be stars.
